100 Mile Thames Challenge
The Thompson Taraz team have taken part part in a challenge to raise £1000 for the ThompsonTaraz Charitable Foundation to fund 6 bicycle ambulances in Malawi. We travelled a combined 100 miles using various modes of transport along the Thames.
Bicycle ambulances are an amazingly simple idea as a mode of transport for getting patients, particularly pregnant women, to their nearest rural health clinic. In some instances, the clinic may be several miles away and the only alternative means of transport are to walk or be carried on a bicycle (sitting up). In many cases, these alternatives are simply not an option if the patient is very sick or in labour.
By providing the funding for 6 bicycle ambulances, the Thompson Taraz Charitable Foundation hopes to provide the means of obtaining health care to those who are most vulnerable.
